EMDR

in person in DC or virtually in MD, VA, or DC

Your life changed in a moment.

A cruel word. A betrayal. A breach of trust. A rejection.

(Maybe all of the above?)

Whether it’s something a textbook would call “trauma” or not, you know the truth.

It changed you.

And it still affects you.

your body and mind want to move toward healing

Let’s create a space that will allow for that healing.

⭐️ What if, when you remember these traumatic or troubling experiences, they feel like any other memory that’s a bummer, instead of feeling panicked and activated, like you want to crawl out of your skin?

⭐️ We want see your brain shift from triggered to a healthy, manageable emotional response.

⭐️ It may sound unreal, but we’ve seen it happen, and we believe that,
with EMDR, it can happen for you, too!

are we the right fit for you?

  • According the the EMDR International Association, “Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy is an extensively researched, effective psychotherapy method proven to help people recover from trauma and PTSD symptoms. Ongoing research supports positive clinical outcomes, showing EMDR therapy as a helpful treatment for disorders such as anxiety, depression, OCD, chronic pain, addictions, and other distressing life experiences.”

  • The unique thing about EMDR is that is uses “bilateral” or side-to-side movement during the reprocessing of memories, to promote mental and emotional shifts in the brain and body. Traditionally, this is done by following a movement with your eyes, but it is equally effective with other side-to-side methods, like tapping on alternating knees or shoulders.

  • No. When you engage with EMDR as a client, you are in charge. You are fully conscious and aware of everything that is happening. You can always say when you want to pause, and you can (and should!) have a lot of say in how the process goes. In clinical hypnosis, the client is not fully present, aware, and conscious throughout the process.

  • Heather Clark, LPC, LCPC, CBTP has undergone EMDRIA-approved EMDR training (those are the official EMDR people - you should always look for this when considering an EMDR provider). She also likes to infuse EMDR sessions with IFS and ACT. She’s been a therapist for about a decade, and has been working with trauma and eating disorders her entire career.
